Professor Alison Murdoch is the Head of the Department of Reproductive Medicine at Newcastle University, where she works on the science, ethics, and legislation of fertility treatments. These include mitochondrial transfer (so-called ‘three parent babies’), a technique that Professor Murdoch was pivotal in developing.

Professor Murdoch writes: “As Head of Newcastle Fertility Centre at Life, my research interests are focussed on improving clinical treatments for infertile couples. In this rapidly developing and sensitive field, involvement in the debate, both political and public, is vital to ensure public trust in our work”
