In 2018 it was estimated that 50 million people live with dementia worldwide and this number is expected to increase to 152 million in 2050.

As Director of the Cambridge Institute for Public Health, Professor Carol Brayne is an internationally recognized leader in the field of academic public health. She has pioneered the study of dementia at a population level, launching two major longitudinal studies of the health and cognitive functions of older people. Her research has helped to inform national policy regarding the long-term care of dementia patients as well as promoting scientific understanding of dementia.
