We identify bias in interview procedures, tests and examinations through established psychometric procedures. But identification is not the same as removal. Given a large enough sample it is possible to demonstrate bias in any assessment, a reflection of the inequalities that exist in society. Assessments and tests are messengers: too often they’re getting blamed for the message. How should assessment professionals deal with the inequalities in society that emerge from the practice of their art?This seminar looks at various forms of bias and examines legal implications and the role of the assessment professional in building a more just society.
