In recent decades, computers have dramatically changed our lives and how we interact with the world. The majority of mental health research, however, still relies on structured interviews and paper-based questionnaires and scales to measure mental disorders. These are often inefficient, lengthy, time consuming, and frequently require a clinical rater.

This talk will focus on the role of computers in the assessment of mental health. Special attention will be given to how we can use modern computer power to improve the efficacy of mental health assessment. The basic concepts and benefits of computerized adaptive testing will be explained followed by a demonstration of a simple online prototype platform for adaptive assessment of selected mental health conditions.
