Abstract
Intra-slab seismicity (earthquakes that occur within plates as they descend into the Earth’s interior) remain enigmatic, with the processes that controls the location, style, and size of such earthquakes all still up for debate. However, they are also a critical, if poorly-understood, source of seismic hazard – as seen most-recently in the 2017 Tehuantepec and Puebla/Mexico City earthquakes. Dr Tim Craig will be talking about some new work aimed at better imaging these earthquakes and the processes they represent, and how one might use that to inform future seismic hazard assessment.
