Unsteady Turbulent Plumes and Volcanoes

Motivated by volcanic eruptions, tidally controlled ocean currents, and meteorological observations, unsteady turbulent plume modelling will be discussed. Recent work in modelling these flows suggests that turbulent dispersion is a key physical process that takes place within a turbulent plume. Various attempts to include this process in the modelling of unsteady plumes will be discussed. Finally an application to field data from Santiaguito volcano will be shown.
