OBESITY - A GROWING PROBLEM

Obesity is increasing on an epidemic scale in the developed world, and its associated morbidity and mortality pose one of the greatest health challenges of the 21st century. The problem has a high media profile and yet there is still confusion and uncertainty about how best to manage the problem at both a public health and an individual level. Dr Haslam will describe the issues and challenges, and recommend some actions.

Dr Haslam is a GP with a special interest in obesity and cardiometabolic disease. He is Physician in Obesity Medicine at the Centre for Obesity Research at Luton & Dunstable Hospital, and Clinical Director of the National Obesity Forum (NOF) in the UK. He writes and speaks internationally on obesity and related diseases. His books include Your Questions Answered – Obesity in the popular YQA series, and his next major work is a book on the history of obesity, gluttony and sloth, due to be published shortly.
