  • NOTE THE UNUSUAL TIME *

Analogies as a reasoning tool allow us to form links between seemingly unrelated structures, whether in the context of problem solving, product suggestions, or otherwise. Correspondences capture the atomic units of analogy, on which we define rules for expanding a correspondence set and assigning strengths to individual correspondences. ‘Junk’ correspondences are sometimes derived, but interactive tools and domain constraints provide refinement opportunities. More deeply understanding analogical components provides insight into human reasoning, and can be used to support users in many cognitive domains.
