Abstract
Come to the Winstanley Lecture Theatre at 6 pm to end the term with Professor Christopher Pickard, the leader of the Materials Theory Group at the Department of Materials Science in Cambridge!
“Modern methods for computing the properties of realistic materials from first principles (starting from quantum mechanics) have led to a creation of robust, efficient, and widely used computer codes. Coupled with the explosion of available computational resources, it has become possible to search through the vast space of compositions and arrangements of atoms to discover new materials with extreme properties. A recent highlight is the realisation of record breaking superconductivity in the dense super-hydrides – hydrogen sulphide (Tc=204K) and lanthanum hydride (Tc=260K).”
The talk is free and open for all! It will start at 18:15, with the doors opening at 18:00. To access the venue, follow the signs or ask the porters.
