The role of Fam38 in integrin activation and lung cancer

I will describe the cloning and characterisation of a previously uncharacterised endoplasmic reticulum bound protein Fam38, which is downregulated in lung cancer cell lines and downregulation transforms bronchial epithelial cells. Fam38 activates integrins via R-Ras, mediating calcium mobilisation and calpain activation demonstrating a novel pathway for integrin activation via the ER.
