The Extraordinary Taxation of Holocaust Survivors

Abstract
Academic and Attorney-at-Law Cornel Marian will be telling the extraordinary story of Dutch Jews who, having survived World War II concentration camps, returned to Amsterdam to find themselves liable for back-taxes. Cornel will use the story to explore his wider area of research, which concerns the extent of a State’s power to tax. Cornel initially took a BA in Economics at Boston University, before gaining a law degree and qualifying as a lawyer in the USA . He has an LLM from Stockholm University and is currently completing a PhD at the University of Frankfurt. No prior knowledge of taxation is necessary in order to attend the talk.
