Abstract
Peter Budd was born of missionary parents in Asmara, Eritrea, and spent parts of his childhood in Southern Arabia, the UK and the Horn of Africa. He studied for a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD at the University of Manchester. After eight years working as a research chemist with BP at Sunbury-on-Thames, he returned to Manchester in 1989 as a lecturer. In his research, he seeks to understand the interactions between polymers and small molecules, and to apply that knowledge in the development of novel materials for applications such as membranes for industrial-scale separations. He is co-inventor of a group of polymers referred to as “Polymers of Intrinsic Microporosity” or PIMs.
