Abstract
In our quest for the perfect picture, it is crucial to capture light information that will allow us to mimic our ability to perceive the world around us. While conventional visual capturing technologies are unable to fully acquire this information, light field technology brings us a step closer to imitating human perception. In this talk, we will review what is behind the emergence of light field technology and discuss the challenges and research opportunities this evolution offers and how it can drastically affect domains that depend heavily on visual acquisition technologies, such as entertainment/education & training, autonomous driving, Augmented Reality (AR) & gaming, education/training, digital health and wellness.
