Snowlines and Planet Compositions

Abstract
Snowlines, or condensation fronts, regulate the elemental and molecular gas and solid abundances across planet forming disks. I will review what we know about snowline locations based on theory and observations of disks, and what they can teach us about the formation sites of planets in our own Solar System, especially Jupiter, which we propose formed in the outer parts of the Solar System. I will discuss the likelihood of exo-Jupiters beginning their existence at similarly large distances from their host stars, and what observations are needed to test different formation models.
