Abstract
Most children are adopted after cumulative experiences of maltreatment and institutionalization. How are they, physically and psychologically, when they join their new families? What is the extent and the timing of their recovery? Does recovery follow similar patterns in different areas (growth, cognitive development, attachment…)? Answer to these questions will be illustrated with data from a study of children adopted internationally into Spanish families.
