Usage of FPGA for Passive Network Monitoring

Abstract
Hardware-accelerated network monitoring is essential to meet the requirements of line rate network traffic processing without a packet loss. On the other hand, hardware in form of ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) misses the flexibility of software-based tools. The trade-off between software and hardware seems to be FPG As (Field Programmable Gate Arrays).
In the presentation, I will talk about acceleration of two widespread network monitoring applications, NetFlow and Snort. I will describe the network acceleration platform, design and algorithms used for implementation of these two applications, achieved results, deployment and future directions.
