Abstract
Although combustion of spray is widely used in power generation and aerospace industry, the simple paradigm of flame propagation in a cloud of droplets is not completely understood. We carried out a one dimensional numerical study of the premixed flame propagation in a monodisperse spray, using detailed chemistry and transport. The effects of initial droplet diameter and overall equivalence ratio were examined. The flame speed was correlated to an effective gaseous equivalence ratio and three different flame structures were observed.
