Universal exfoliation of 2D materials
Abstract
will introduce a possible universal exfoliation mechanism for massive production of 2D materials from their bulk counterparts. Using first principles calculations, we demonstrate that spontaneous exfoliation can be induced by introducing holes in layered materials. In contrast to the introduction of exccess electrons and electron-hole pairs, creating hole states weakens the interlayer interactions, leading to layer separation. Our results may provide a universal route for producing large-area monolayers by controlling their hole concentrations.
