Seismic soil-pile-structure interaction in soft clays and layered soils
- π€ Speaker: Dr Thejesh Kumar Garala, Research Associate at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham
- π Date & Time: Wednesday 03 March 2021, 19:00 - 20:00
- π Venue: Delivered online via Zoom
Abstract
Despite the research on the dynamic behaviour of pile foundations from last five to six decades, pile foundations continued to fail during the recent earthquakes highlighting that there are still some aspects that needs a thorough investigation. This seminar presents the research outcomes from Dr Garalaβs PhD on better understanding the dynamic behaviour of pile foundations in soft clays and layered soils from specifically designed dynamic centrifuge experiments. This talk covers the dynamic behaviour of soft clays and layered soils; importance of kinematic loads in the design of pile foundations and the influence of phase difference between the kinematic and inertial loads on the dynamic behaviour of pile foundations.
Series This talk is part of the Engineering Department Geotechnical Research Seminars series.
