Abstract
The lecture will review experimental studies from my lab, where we use models of different length scale and complexity to understand the responses of (circulating and adherent) cells and fibrous tissues to mechanical and topological stimuli. The obtained knowledge is applied to rationally design synthetic cellular niches and scaffolds to (re)build living tissues, in particular for the cardiovascular system. As an examples, we develop degradable synthetic vessels and valves that trigger the formation of new tissue under hemodynamic loading conditions inside the human body.
