Cloud Computing - Back to the Mainframe?

Forty years ago, the mainframe was king, providing the computational backbone for a series of dumb terminals. From then onwards, the focus was on shifting a large portion of computation away from centralised servers and towards desktop machines. However, with an ever increasing number of less-powerful devices gaining internet connectivity, a new field is emerging, in which computation is once again pushed back into a central core, now provided by the cloud of the internet. Is the future of computing to move back to where we started?

This talk will discuss the principles of cloud computing, the implications it will have on the way we use software, and a look into what the future might hold.
