Abstract
The origin of massive black holes remains unknown and hotly debated. This has significant consequences for our ability to accurately model black hole growth in galaxies given we do not have a solid foundation from which to start from. In this talk I will begin by outlining the current state-of-affairs in the field and then move onto discussing state-of-the-art numerical simulations which are beginning to shed some light onto this cosmic puzzle. I will also touch on how future Gravitational Wave measurements from LISA will help in providing important clues to the origin of massive black holes.
