Impacts by objects big and small have shaped our solar system. In this talk I will discuss some of the many varied phenomena that owe their existence to impacts. We will see how giant impacts can grow planets and result in the existence of our own Moon and the strange composition of Mercury, and how to smaller but no less important impacts can alter the mass and composition of atmospheres on our own planet and others, potentially delivering vital ingredients for the emergence of life.
