Abstract
I will discuss an averaging problem which is specific in modified gravity theories which, depending on the linearity and dynamics of the theory, and also depending on the microscopic nature of the dominant matter species, could cause the true cosmological/astrophysical solutions to be very different from what are expected by naively applying the usual GR approach. Some examples where this issue cannot be neglected are given to illustrate it.
