Dr. Beth Oakley is a postdoctoral research associate working on the project AIMS -2-TRIALS at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (King’s College London), where she also completed her PhD. Her research focuses on mental health in autism; including its impact on outcomes (e.g. quality of life) and potential underpinning mechanisms (e.g. sensory sensitivities and emotion awareness/ regulation).

In this talk, Beth will present some of her recent work using data from the AIMS Longitudinal European Autism Project – investigating the impact of co-occurring anxiety and depression on quality of life for autistic people and the role of ‘alexithymia’ (difficulties identifying and describing emotion) as a contributing factor for these co-occurring symptoms.
