Abstract
Exotic stable massive particles (SMPs) which interact in a detector are traditionally sought whenever a new collision energy is reached. Furthermore, SMPs are anticipated in a number of scenarios of physics beyond the Standard Model, such as supersymmetry and theories of extra dimensions. This talk reviews the motivation for SMPs and previous searches at colliders and cosmic ray facilities. In addition, planned searches at the LHC , which need to address special experimental challenges owing to the comparative slowness of SMPs, are also discussed.
Series This talk is part of the Cavendish HEP Seminars series.
