Cambridge Humanist Group

What we do – We are a local group and welcome guests and those interested in finding out more about a rational approach to life.

At our meetings, which are open, we explore and discuss ethical and social issues, such as human relationships, medical ethics (eg, in reproduction and euthanasia), environmental issues, ethical investment, fair trade, other belief systems, scientific ethics (eg, genetic modification), issues in mental health, our relationships with other species, law and justice.

Our activities centre around two monthly evening meetings: - one is usually a talk followed by a discussion though sometimes we just gather to discuss a prearranged topic - the other is an opportunity to talk about anything at an informal social meeting at the Free Press, Prospect Row (behind Parkside Police Station), Cambridge.

In addition we usually have three weekend social events during the year, such as a picnic and a garden party in the summer and a pub lunch in January.

Members are kept informed of events and news with a quarterly newsletter. Members can suggest topics or speakers for meeting and contribute views to the newsletter.

Humanist ceremonies – One of our members is a humanist ceremonies officiant who can give advice and assistance with non-religious funerals, marriages and naming ceremonies. Get in touch with her via our contacts page.

Membership – Membership is open to all who share our objectives, and membership to the BHA (British Humanist Association) is not required.
