QMC and the 1D electron gas

Abstract
I will present recent quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) calculations on the 1D homogeneous electron gas (HEG), spending some time introducing the details of the model and its experimental pertinence. I will also explore several interactions that one may use to model a finite-width wire (the quasi-1D HEG ).
The first system is sufficiently simple that understanding the particulars of the QMC calculations is straightforward, and provides a good opportunity for non-QMC specialists to see an uncomplicated application.
Results that I will show include the energy, pair-correlation function, static structure factor and (perhaps most interestingly) the momentum density.
