Since secondary schools have fully reopened, secondary school pupils have been strongly encouraged to participate in twice weekly mass testing using lateral flow device tests (LFTs), to minimise the increase in transmission associated with reopening schools. Other strategies involving LFTs have also been considered previously, such as serial contact testing. This talk presents an individual-based model used to evaluate the relative impact of different school reopening strategies on within-school transmission and absences, before discussing how this model can be extended to gain an insight into the impact that mass testing via LFTs is having on within-school transmission at current levels of uptake.
