Abstract
The Hatters lab studies impacts of protein misfolding and aggregation in cultured cell models of neurodegenerative diseases. We have developed approaches to examine the changes in solubility of the proteome in context of Huntingtonโs disease cell models and when we perturb specific elements of the quality control systems that regulate proteostasis. We have also developed approaches with chemical reagents to monitor cysteine reactivity to probe changes in proteome foldedness and conformation. I will discuss recent findings from our laboratory including unpublished work that provide insight to the mechanisms of how proteins in cells change their structure and function in response to stresses and stimuli.
