Abstract
Early stages of the pandemic highlighted public concerns about clearly connecting policy advice to the results, models and data sources on which it depends. However, such concerns reach well beyond the current crisis, and can unnecessarily damage the credibility of the evidence being provided. As we move into a era where unwelcome policy advice may be more prevalent than ever, we need to ensure that it is as transparent as possible to reduce the attack surface for those that seek to undermine it, as well as making its evidence base as accessible as possible for those who want to help make that evidence stronger. I will discuss a potential route out of this quagmire.
