Abstract
In the last decades, the study of disasters in the past from an historical perspective has shown how these events deeply modified the political, economic and social life of pre-industrial societies. In this seminar we will focus on analysing the way in which past societies have dealt with disasters. From the coexistence of multiple interpretations of their causes, to the importance of information networks in the aftermath of the disaster, or the leading role of experts in the resolution of the emergency.
