From the silver of fish scales, to the blue of peacock feathers, there is far more to the brightest colours in in nature than meets our eyes. This lecture will introduce and describe nature’s use and production of colour; outlining the results of very recent research and describing the way such new understanding is being applied to modern technological systems, ranging from ultra-bright LEDS to L’Oreal cosmetics.

Peter Vukusic is an Associate Professor in the University of Exeter’s School of Physics.His work is frequently featured on scientific programs of the BBC and National Geographic. He delivered the 2008 BA Lord Kelvin Award Lecture and was the IoP’s Schools Lecturer for 2007.
