Abstract
An introduction to the basic principle of synthetic biology and the idea of standardized parts.
This workshop will introduce the concept of “standardized parts” in biological engineering. Analogous to the standardization in other fields of engineering, synthetic biologists have divided up natural and artificial sequences of DNA into interchangeable building units. We’ll present what standardized biological parts look like, how they are assembled into units for expressing recombinant proteins, and some examples ranging from cellular force gauges to inflammation sensors.
