Functional Phylogenetics on the Scale of the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic
- đ¤ Speaker: Dr Emily Scher, University of Edinburgh

- đ Venue: Zoom
Abstract
The SARS -CoV-2 pandemic has led to the production of massive amounts of sequencing data. As the virus evolves, it is vital that this data is tracked and analysed in real time. This talk will present a brief overview of how researchers use sequences to track the spread and evolution of SARS -CoV-2. I will discuss the development of Pangolin, a tool which classifies a sequence’s position within the larger phylogenetic tree quickly and accurately, touching on several of the challenges we’ve faced in developing this tool in the context of a rapidly changing data landscape.
Series This talk is part of the Worms and Bugs series.
