Abstract
Abstract: The talk will outline the history of the setting up of the National Centre for Gaming Disorders in 2019 and will give an in depth understanding of the clinical presentation of the young people assessed and treated. The issues impacting family members and family life caused by a loved one’s gaming disorder will be described as will the interventions delivered at the clinic. Some of the talk will cover the neurobiology of the illness as well as the global WHO work of the expert advisory group on Gaming Disorder.
Biography: Professor Henrietta Bowden-Jones OBE is the current President of Psychiatry, Royal Society of Medicine (2020-2022). She is a medical doctor and neuroscience researcher working as Consultant psychiatrist in Addictions, leading two national clinics in the UK. As well as graduating in Medicine and specialising in Psychiatry with a CCST in Addiction Psychiatry, Prof Bowden-Jones also pursued a research career and a Medical Doctorate in Neuroscience from Imperial College (Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex impairment in Alcohol Dependency). She is the founder and joint Chair of the National UK Research Network for Behavioural Addictions ( NUK -BA) based at Cambridge University. She has published several books and has an extensive publication list in a whole range of peer reviewed journals.
