Abstract
After decades of controversy among scholars, there is now a growing consensus that ancient Greek warfare was not singular and simple, but complex and multiform. The latest studies increasingly move away from the traditional focus on battlefields and hoplites, expanding the chronological, geographical and operational limits of our understanding or Greek warfare and its impact on ancient communities. In this talk, the editors of the newly published “Brill’s Companion to Greek Land Warfare Beyond the Phalanx”https://brill.com/view/title/61308?language=en will discuss the latest directions in the field and the merits of studying Greek warfare beyond the Greek mainland and beyond the phalanx.
