Abstract
Jan Löwe completed his PhD under Robert Huber at the Max Planck Institute before moving to the LMB in Cambridge for an EMBO fellowship with Linda Amos. Continuing at the LMB , he soon became a group leader and joint head of the structural studies division before becoming the Director in 2018. Jan is renowned for his work on the bacterial cytoskeleton where he was the first to identify actin and tubulin homologs. His group have also solved the structure of numerous other proteins such as the SMC complex and human thyroglobulin.
