Abstract

Textile reinforcement is a novel type of reinforcement for structural concrete. It is made of high-performance continuous fibres that are bundled into fibre strands. By means of highly automatized textile fabrication methods, these strands are processed into a fabric. The reinforcement is characterized by superior mechanical properties and a high corrosion resistance. In this seminar I will discuss some research gaps that are currently being addressed in my work with an innovative and interdisciplinary approach. Furthermore, I will highlight some pilot applications where the usage of textile reinforcement resulted in a reduction of the overall material consumption and enabled a more sustainable solution compared to steel-reinforced concrete elements. As a conclusion, it can be stated that textile reinforcement is a promising new type of reinforcement for structural concrete, which in the author’s point of view will find its way into practice in the near future.
