Abstract
Sliding Mode Control is a valuable control methodology capable of controlling nonlinear systems affected by uncertainty. Sliding Mode control has been applied in numerous areas, such as automotive control, traffic control, power systems control and robotics, to name just a few of them. One of the limitations of Sliding Mode Control in its original formulation is the impossibility of explicitly considering in the design of the controller the presence of state and input constraints. In this talk, an overview of the basic concepts of Sliding Mode Control theory and of the so-called first order and higher order Sliding Mode strategies will be provided. Then, advanced Sliding Mode Control approaches will be presented which enable to deal with constrained uncertain nonlinear systems.
