Abstract
In recent years, high-resolution spectroscopy has proven to be a powerful avenue for atmospheric remote sensing of exoplanets. This method uses the fact that at high spectral resolution (R ~ 100,000), individual spectral lines in a planet’s atmosphere can be separated from quasi-static stellar and telluric lines due to the Doppler shift during the planet’s orbit. The unique fingerprint of molecules can then be extracted using cross-correlation techniques, which has led to detections of key molecules, such as H2O and CO, in several hot Jupiters. In this talk, I will give an overview of the data analysis and present preliminary results from the science verification of CRIRES +, a newly commissioned high-resolution infrared spectrograph at the VLT .
