Abstract
Throwing our rubbish into holes in the ground has been a convenient and cheap way of disposing of it, but these holes, landfill sites, are full to near (or at) capacity. And some landfill sites are located in areas which could be better used for other purposes. And people have started to think about whether there could be some value to be extracted from the contents of landfill sites. I have investigated the drivers, economics and logistics of mining landfill sites, and will be presenting some conclusions in this talk.
