Abstract
The America’s Cup is the world’s pinnacle yachting competition, where every four years teams must design, build, and race a cutting edge yacht in hope of winning the oldest trophy in international sport. The sport is a battle of sailing brawn, brain, and budget, but the winner is usually those who have ‘a faster yacht’. Engineering is clearly key to success. In this talk we review some of the unique technologies behind the AC75 class, the challenges faced by the engineering teams, and the consequences of mistakes. As always, lunch will be provided.
