Abstract
Recent years have seen a paradigm shift in the role of structural non-linearity and elastic instability. Traditionally viewed as undesirable and avoided by design, when understood and controlled to be well-behaved, structural non linearity can enable novel functionalities, such as shape adaptation for morphing structures. In this talk, we introduce some recent developments in the design and analysis of well-behaved nonlinear structures, such as the use of sequential, interacting instabilities in the design of a passively-actuated morphing aerospace structure.
