Abstract
The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics encodes our current understanding of elementary particles. Despite having been tested by many experiments to a high level of accuracy, no significant deviations from SM predictions have been observed so far. With the start of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN , particle physics entered a new era. The most sensational achievement of the LHC has been the detection of the Higgs boson. Although we may think that all pieces of the big jigsaw puzzle of Nature have now been revealed, astrophysical observation and our modern understanding of quantum field theories tell us that the SM is necessarily incomplete and cannot be valid up to any large scales. In this talk I will show how the mathematics of Effective Field Theories and the wealth of experimental data from LHC open a new fascinating journey exploring new physics scenarios beyond the Standard Model.
