Control challenges in Synthetic and Evolutionary Biology

Abstract
We will present recent and ongoing work on several research efforts applying control theoretic tools to challenges in Synthetic Biology and Evolutionary Biology. This will include the design and implementation of feedback control circuits built with genetic components; the development of cybergenetic control systems that link robotic (in silico) components with synthetic biological (in vivo) components; and the development of theory and experimental tools for real-time control and optimisation of evolution. The presentation will touch on work developing biological experimental techniques (primarily model organism bacteria), design and dissemination of hardware platforms (e.g. bioreactors) to enable implementation of novel control architectures, and fundamental mathematics/data-driven methodology to better learn from and understand dynamic biological systems.
