Abstract
We study non-smooth migration of Saturn mass planets in the presence of large-scale vortices in the protoplanetary disc. Vortices are non-linear outcomes of shear instabilities associated with edges of the gap opened by the planet. We present a self-consistent picture of this process, including the formation of the unstable basic state, its linear stability and full hydrodynamic simulations. The role of the instability in type III migration is discussed.
