Abstract
Dr. Magnus Richardson (Warwick University) will present
The microcircuit of pyramidal cells and local inhibitory interneurons is thought to be a fundamental motif of neocortical structure. Not all the parameters of the microcircuit are well quantified, however. Here I will describe some recent work we have done to describe the statistics of synaptic transmission between layer-5 pyramidal cells and to develop simplified models of the neurons of the microcircuit. These models – a form of non-linear integrate-and-fire model – are analytically tractable and, time allowing, I will describe how the firing-rate properties of the models may be derived analytically using the Fokker-Planck method.
It will take place as usual in the Engineering Department (Baker Building), CBL Rm #438 (http://blg.eng.cam.ac.uk/t/bin/view/Public/Directions).
