Abstract
COVID -19 convalescent plasma to meet unmet therapeutic needs
Early transfusion of plasma donated by individuals having recovered from COVID -19 (COVID-19 convalescent plasma) is likely to reduce the risk of severe COVID -19 lung inflammation. A correlation between the dose of neutralising anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in the transfused plasma and therapeutic success has been reported in several studies, including those involving hospitalised patients.
The evolution of the COVID -19 pandemic may include the emergence of COVID -19 variants even less sensitive to the protective vaccination and/or prior infection. In this setting, high concentration plasma collected from donors recovering from these variants is likely to constitute a treatment available quickly, widely and inexpensively.
In this talk, Pierre Tiberghien will discuss the French study CORIPLASM and other studies which suggest that CCP may be an effective therapeutic option in patients with underlying immunodeficiency and hospitalised with severe COVID -19.
