Abstract
Conical basket centrifugal filters are successfully used in the sugar refining process to separate dry granular sugar crystals from liquid syrup. However, extension of the machine type to other separation processes has to date been limited by a lack of understanding of the fundamental physics of the process. Current work on modelling the flow in these machines will be described in this talk.
